Incidents of this nature can result in extensive contamination, noxious odours and the presence of insects and vermin. Confidential handling of personal effects and co-operation with Police may also be necessary.

Bodily fluids
These may be of many types including blood and excrement, and will possibly be highly infectious (including HIV) and very unpleasant. The presence of these fluids may be confined to a small area, or widespread.

Sharps or syringes
Items of this kind can be extremely dangerous, particularly where illegal drugs are involved, and require specialist handling in all cases.

Infestation by insects or vermin
Alive or dead, insects or vermin and their excrement create very unpleasant situations that are also likely to pose health hazards.

Lonq-term accumulated household waste
Material can accumulate in houses and gardens through long-term neglect and might create a variety of problems, including infestation and contamination. On occasions personal effects may have to be sorted and separated.
